3 Essential Potty Training Tips
3 Essential Potty Training Tips
By Cary Benjamin
Contrary to popular belief this need not be such a pain. But potty training is something you cannot afford to take lightly either. It is not entirely impossible to train your dog about where it's supposed to go do its business - it's just that it takes some commitment on the owner's part. On the whole however, it is an essential part of bonding with your new puppy.
To make your job easier, you will find lots of advice available for free as to the best way to go about potty training a pup, or rather, house training it. All of them are tried and tested, but require a good deal of patience and have a long gestation period. Also, you may realize new and unique problems coming your way when you do. A few tips and tricks to deal with these problems:
1) Consider the worst case scenario. Your pup goes on your Persian rug. Yikes! Therefore, take the rug off before your pup has a chance to. Same applies to most other expensive upholstery. Either remove them or get cheap washable covers for the time being. Plain linoleum flooring that is easy to clean is the best option.
2) Pups have very little control over their bowel movements - they go whenever and wherever they feel like it. So you might not want to leave your pup unsupervised for long. Over time, when you establish a pattern for your pups eating and 'going' time, the pup will learn how to control his bowel movements.
3) Keep all supplies for cleaning out puppy poop handy and teach everyone in the family how to do the job well. And don't pick up the pup while it's doing its business to put him outside, unless you want poop all over your house.

If you have a puppy, you know what is ahead of you - work, work and more work. This is especially when it comes to potty training a puppy. With some dogs it may be easy to train them. With others, it may the a lot more work. One thing is for sure - it definitely takes patience! These tips will help.
Patience with Persistence
Puppies are so cute and adorable and are like babies. They need extra attention and time with love, nurturing and training. Potty training a puppy does not have to be a stressful time. It will take a lot of patience and persistence, and you will accomplish your goal of potty training the puppy.
Picking the Spot
Not every puppy is going to be the same. As a matter of fact, some may seem to be more difficult to train than others. This is true, but learning how to adjust according the puppy will help you to discover what will work the best for him or her.
When the puppy needs to potty, you need to take him or her to one particular area, so the puppy will know this is their appointed spot. You should do this every time you take the puppy to potty. Training a puppy is not as difficult as it may seem, and you will need to be consistent as you are patient and steady in your efforts.
Keep a Schedule
Help your puppy to learn a schedule by taking him or her outside each time when he or she wakes up, finishes eating his or her food and drinking and before putting the puppy to bed for the night. You should take the puppy out at least every hour and a half or so throughout the day.
The more you do this, the more the puppy will become adjusted to the schedule. When potty training a puppy, don't allow him or her to be distracted or to play around, because this is time for the puppy to do what he or she needs to do. Don't forget to let the puppy how proud you are for his or her obedience.
Puppies are so much fun to have, and they are a big responsibility. Potty training a puppy will take some time with plenty of accidents, but it is all part of the learning process. Remember to be patient with consistency in your persistence.

3 Essential Rules For House Breaking a Puppy
3 Essential Rules For House Breaking a Puppy
By Cary Benjamin
House breaking is crucial, and it essentially involves training your new puppy for two things - going potty and staying in one place. Needless to say, it also teaches the owner the virtue of patience and a thing or two of what it might be like to raise children. House training is a long process and something one must consider before adopting a dog. It requires the owner to put in real effort for as long a period of time as it takes for the dog to learn. A few rules for house breaking to get you acquainted.
1. Prepare the house for the house breaking. Understand that your house will now be used by someone very different from you and as much as the dog will learn to adjust, so should your house. Make your home a safe environment for your pup by getting rid of objects that the pup might swallow or break. Similarly, seal or fasten entrances to rooms and closets you don't want the puppy going in to. Make a special place just for the puppy, that can serve as his 'den'
2. Start house breaking on the first day and maintain everyday, even after the puppy has learned the ropes. Starting early and being consistent helps reinforce commands and also minimizes confusion.
3. Involve the entire family. Your whole family needs to understand the importance of house breaking and co-operate during all the stages, especially when the puppy is new in the house.
Any kind of training - potty, crate or obedience will succeed only when all of these rules are followed. These rules establish clear lines of communication between you and your pup that will form a strong foundation for any training.
